Buick not only has their 2011 Regal, which debuted back at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show, ready for NAIAS 2010, but also a Regal GS show car. Yes friends, your dream has come! A possibly updated Regal GS will drop in Detroit at the 2010 North American International Auto Show next week. Reports are sketchy at the moment, though previous stories hint to an almost 400 horse power coupe.

The new Regal sedan for 2011 features a smaller design based off Opel’s Insignia OPC currently built in Germany. That used to be Saturn’s deal…taking Opels. For now, Buick will get the European designs for GM.

Other sources state the Regal GS will retain all four doors, but have a larger, more powerful engine. Can Buick break 400hp? Not if they want to keep their 29-30 MPG highway rating. We also reported on a possible Buick Regal Wagon last month, but have yet to hear any further confirmation.

Stay tuned to check out full Buick coverage at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Buick’s latest concept car is a small, coupe-like premium city vehicle, Avant. What? A Buick that isn’t the size of your childhood home? GM tested small cars on a few of their brands, and based on the achievements of Buick in China, and their growing presence in American cities, made it the perfect choice for The “New” GM.

The video presentation – via The GM Lab, which is a blog set up through General Motors public relations, displays some of the finer tidbits of Avant. First off we at Buickpedia have to comment – we LOVE the look of Avant! Knowing this is merely the concept we know Avant won’t keep its futuristic design after production model phase, but the slender curves and egg-like shape ranks up there with Hyundai’s Accent and Toyota’s Yaris.

Special features being worked into Avant’s design include a retractile luggage storage trolley, which loads/unloads the vehicle for its driver, “Smart Doors” and translucent glass roof, which can switch from clear to dark in a matter of seconds. GM claims their “research was not brand specific” when working on Buick Avant – wonder what a Chevy Avant would look like? Stay tuned for more here and at thelab.gmblogs.

When you think of a big Buick, fuel economy isn’t the first thought popping into your head. GM wants to change that. They’ve announced one of their classic rides – the 2010 Buick LaCrosse – will get a 2.4-liter Ecotec engine. This gives the 4-door sedan a 182 horsepower bump and is expected to return 20 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

That may not seem impressive at first – but look at a Buick – it’s HUGE and usually not that fast. Traveling 30 miles to the gallon is quite the feet in a LaCrosse. You can go from Cleveland to Philadelphia on about one tank of gasoline.

Look for the 2.4-liter Buick LaCrosse Ecotec with a base price of $27,085. Full details in the GM Press Release below:

A fuel-efficient, direct injected Ecotec 2.4L four-cylinder engine will be the third engine offered in the 2010 Buick LaCrosse luxury sedan. Backed by a fuel-saving six-speed automatic transmission, the new powertrain combination is expected to deliver fuel economy of 30 mpg highway and 20 mpg city*– making LaCrosse one of the most fuel-efficient cars in its segment.

“Buick LaCrosse customers will have the fuel-efficient option of the Ecotec 2.4L direct injection engine, a four-cylinder that is not available by key competitors, such as the Lincoln MKZ and Acura TL,” said Susan Docherty, Buick-Pontiac-GMC vice president. “Features such as a rear-seat entertainment system and remote starting are other technologies that are segment exclusives, contributing to LaCrosse’s balanced package of design, performance and intelligent technology.”

The Ecotec 2.4L four-cylinder joins the lineup later this year as the standard engine in the LaCrosse CX. Direct injection technology helps it deliver 182 horsepower (136 kW) and 172 lb-ft. of torque (233 Nm). Buick expects about 25 percent of customers will opt for 2.4L-equipped models.

The 2.4L’s injection of fuel directly into the combustion chamber enables a higher compression ratio to increase efficiency and horsepower. That means more power is made with less fuel and lower emissions. In fact, cold-start emissions are reduced by up to 25 percent with direct injection. Engineers tuned the Ecotec 2.4L engine to deliver greater torque at lower rpm and build it smoothly toward its peak at 4,900 rpm, giving the Buick LaCrosse excellent performance in all driving conditions.

“Direct injection is a key component of GM’s ongoing strategy to use advanced propulsion technology to help us deliver more fuel-efficient cars today and in the future,” said Tom Stephens, vice chairman, Global Product Development. “GM is using multiple technology pathways to achieve increased efficiency and to diversify energy sources – and we’re applying them where they make the most sense for customers when it comes to efficiency, performance and cost.”

Every engine in the LaCrosse lineup is direct injected and matched with a fuel-saving six speed automatic transmission. Along with the Ecotec 2.4L, a new, direct injected 3.0L V-6 is offered and a larger-displacement, more powerful 3.6L V-6 is standard on the LaCrosse CXS model.

Quiet, low-maintenance performance

As with the 3.0L and 3.6L V-6 engines, the Ecotec 2.4L is designed to deliver exceptional quietness with low maintenance requirements and minimal environmental impact – including 100,000-mile service life ratings for the spark plugs and accessory drive belt. It is also equipped with GM’s Oil Life system, which uses a sophisticated algorithm to determine when it’s time for an oil change. The system calculates the oil life based on a variety of closely monitored variables, such as engine speed, temperature, load and others, allowing fewer oil changes over the life of the vehicle for a significantly reduced amount of used oil that must be recycled.

LaCrosse and Buick’s renaissance

The 2010 Buick LaCrosse luxury sedan is the newest example of the globally influenced product renaissance at Buick. It offers all-wheel drive, a suite of advanced intelligent personal technologies and safety features, and great styling that blends heritage cues with modern design.

“The new LaCrosse builds on the success of Enclave as the next step in Buick’s renaissance,” said Docherty. “It will attract a whole new type of buyer to our dealerships, as Buick strengthens its position as one of GM’s core brands.”
Not very well in the the opinions of classic car lovers. With today’s world of fuel-efficiency and aerodynamics, purchasing a right-angled car with a V8 engine is far from responsible car shopping. However, back in 1954 (or even ‘64) you were sure to catch a glimpse of interest as you tore up the highway in a Wildcat or Wildcat II convertible.

Let’s start with the first-class interior. There is seating for five, but six could definitely fit in there if need be. The 2008 Lucerne’s longer wheelbase allows a more suitable amount of legroom for all the passengers. The roominess is complemented with comfortable leather seating in the upper trim levels, and dual-zone automatic air conditioning; single-zone air conditioning is available on the base trim level. Other features that can be added on to the Lucerne arsenal include a touch-screen navigation system, a heated leather steering wheel, heated and cooled seats and a 280-watt audio system! Of course, there are an abundant number of other features on top of that from which you can choose.

The Lucerne is loaded up with power as well as features. The first two available trim levels have two engines available; the 3.8-liter V6 and the 4.6-liter V8. The all-new Super Trim gets the supercharged 4.6-liter V8 engine; this engine can deliver 292 horsepower and 288 lb. ft. of torque! All engines run on a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. Buick loaded up the Lucerne with some nice safety features as well. The sedan’s six airbags include a driver and front-right passenger dual-stage airbag system, front and rear passenger head-curtain airbags and side-impact airbags. A tire-pressure monitoring system, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist and an electronic stability system are other safeties offered for selection. A new technology offered for 2008 is the blind spot and lane-departure warning system that is available on all trim levels.

This full-size wonder can really drive well, and with the stress on QuietTuning, you’ll never hear any of the outside noises over your impressive nine-speaker audio system. The 2008 Lucerne is an example of a life lived in luxury.

Buick claims that their adolescent midsize sedan is “The most exhilarating Buick luxury ever.” With the 2008 model, this comment is understandable.

Let’s start with the unique interior. The inside of this automobile can hold up to six people, which is high for its class. The front seat is a bench seat, which is how this is allowed. For those who prefer the traditional five seating with two-captain front seat set up, that is available as well. The inside is also prepared with a set of state-of-the-art technologies to keep it running smoothly. Dual-zone automatic air conditioning, cruise control, Buick QuietTuning noise blocking technology and remote-starting are but a few of the conveniences you’ll find in the 2008 LaCrosse. An impressive Driver Information Center provides full access to all vehicle instrumentation in an easy to the eye presentation. The inside is also complete with an array of safety and security mechanics. An army of airbags, with standard side curtain airbags, keeps the driver and passengers protected in case of an accident. Antilock brakes and a stability system are other safety features you’ll find present for your safekeeping.

Powering this machine is a 3.8-liter V6 engine on the base models, with a 3.6-liter V6 that has variable valve timing on the CXS. The brand new Super trim level gets a hefty 5.3-liter V8 engine that is capable of 300 horsepower and 323 lb. ft. of torque; this engine can switch its output to match the amount of power needed for any given situation. Buick claims the Super model can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. A four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive doubles with all of the available engines, including the new 2008 Super trim level.

The innovative LaCrosse Sedan makes Buick proud for the 2008 year.

“The finest luxury SUV ever” comes to you from Buick this year in the form of the Enclave. This high performance SUV brings a host of new features to the class.

The interior cabin is a splendor to the senses and can be compared to riding first class on a top-of-the-line aircraft. There is seating for either seven or eight, depending on if you choose to use the second row captain’s seats or the three-person bench seat. The second and third row can fold down to compress and allow extra cargo space. The space can increase up to 116.2 cubic feet of space. Buick provides extra attention to insolate the interior cabin as much as possible, to reduce the noise so passengers can fully enjoy the Bose 10-speaker audio system. A conveniently placed meter display, optimal head and room space and a navigation system are a few of many other luxuries involved with this wondrous vehicle.

This car-esque SUV is outfitted with a 3.6-liter V6 engine, capable of 275 horsepower and 251 lb. ft. of torque. The six-speed automatic transmission that the engine doubles with gives it an estimated 22-24 mpg highway. Buick claims the Enclave can use this power to tow up to 4,500 pounds! All of this power is protected with six standard airbags, four-wheel-disc antilock brakes, an electronic stability system and an extended inflation time during rollover.

The Enclave gives you comfort, power and protection all wrapped up in one beautiful package. It drives better than you could imagine and is an exceptional addition to Buick’s 2008 lineup.
